Contested by the opposition but also by part of the left wing of the majority, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin nevertheless retains the confidence of Emmanuel Macron, and does not intend to back down on the dossier of the controversial article 24 of the "Global security" law.

Will Gerald Darmanin be weakened by this hectic week?

Already in the crosshairs of the opposition, but also contested by part of the left wing of the majority, the Minister of the Interior had to manage the controversy arising from the evacuation of a migrant camp, in the heart of the city. in Paris on Monday, as well as the indignation aroused by the video of the beating of a producer by the police.

And if he was able to take advantage Tuesday of a broad vote by the deputies of the law "Comprehensive security" and its controversial article 24, the situation has also become tense on this front, with the confusion around the creation of an independent commission for a new writing of the article.

However, according to information from Europe 1, the minister does not intend to back down on this file.

Malaise among the majority

In any case, this is assured to Europe 1 by someone close to the former mayor of Tourcoing.

According to him, the controversy around the "Global Security" law is a purely Parisian subject.

Warning against a "magnifying glass effect", this relative believes that the minister "has public opinion with him. Polls show that the French support this article 24".

The fact remains that the crisis of article 24 has finished defeating the majority.

The minister must also hold a video conference on Monday with the LREM deputies of the Law Commission for a crisis meeting.

And within the government, if the ex-LR retains its support, the unease is growing on the left wing.

Macron is counting on him to siphon off the right

But even if he is attacked from all sides, starting with his own camp, according to our information, Gérald Darmanin intends to continue his strategy of defense of sensitive subjects to continue to move the lines.

And on the side of his entourage, we recall that he has the support of Emmanuel Macron.

Because if all at the Elysee are not of this opinion, several advisers of the president consider that in the long term, we will retain, despite his clumsiness and his errors, that Gerald Darmanin held the line which was fixed for him and is fighting.

In addition, the subject also concerns the strategy of the Head of State for the next presidential campaign.

Emmanuel Macron knows that his sidelines are very thin to try to find a possible replacement for Darmanin.

Especially since, coming from the right, his Minister of the Interior is until today an important part of the presidential score to try to continue to siphon off his former political family.
