Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The crisis at the steel and industrial group Thyssenkrupp is again an issue in the Düsseldorf state parliament today.

Parliament wants to debate how the country can help the troubled company in a current hour.

Thyssenkrupp announced last week that the downsizing should be significantly greater than previously planned.

Instead of 5,000, 11,000 jobs are to be cut in the next three years.

Compulsory redundancies, which Thyssenkrupp in Germany have previously avoided, can no longer be ruled out.

The corona pandemic severely affected Thyssenkrupp's steel division, which was already suffering from global overcapacity.

With steel production, the group made a loss of almost a billion euros in the 2019/20 financial year, which ended at the end of September.

Group boss Martina Merz is therefore sounding out collaborations with other steel manufacturers in Europe, but is also examining a takeover offer from the British group Liberty Steel for the steel division.

Going it alone with steel is still possible.

A decision should be made in March next year.
