Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) sees the approved federal budget as "tailwind" for numerous important projects in the Free State.

"Especially in view of the enormous challenges posed by the corona pandemic, the promotion of future projects as well as the support of our unique Saxon cultural landscape are elementary," said the head of government in Dresden on Friday.

For example, Chemnitz, the capital of culture, is to be supported with 25 million euros in federal funds for projects and planning in 2025.

In addition, the Ore Mountains mining region is being supported as a Unesco World Heritage Site with more than ten million euros in federal and state funds - through a state foundation “Industrial Culture”, which has yet to be established.

In Annaberg-Buchholz in the Ore Mountains, the campus for automated mobility in rail traffic is to receive more than 22 million euros from the federal government by 2024, according to the State Chancellery.

In addition, funding for the treatment of highly contagious viral diseases is to be promoted at the St. Georg Hospital in Leipzig, among others.

Around seven million euros are to flow into the construction of a so-called high-security treatment center in Leipzig by 2024.

The Saxon member of the Bundestag Thomas Jurk (SPD) pointed out that the lignite region of Lusatia should also be strengthened.

Accordingly, more than 150 new jobs are planned for the branch office of the Federal Office for Economics and Export Control (BAFA) in Weißwasser.
