Halle (dpa / sa) - Labor market experts expect slight job growth and fewer unemployed in Saxony-Anhalt for 2021 despite the Corona crisis.

Scientists from the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) assume in their average scenario of an average of 799,500 jobs subject to social insurance and thus 1,300 more employees than the average for this year, the regional directorate Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia informed the Federal Employment Agency on Friday.

That would correspond to job growth of 0.2 percent.

However, that would be the lowest job growth of all federal states.

The researchers expected an increase of 0.9 percent for the national average, as well as for eastern Germany.

According to the information, the IAB has calculated three scenarios: In particularly unfavorable conditions, they expect a decline in employment of one percent for Saxony-Anhalt, which would mean a decrease of 8,300 jobs compared to the current year.

In the best case, the labor market experts expect job growth of 1.4 percent, that would be 11,000 new jobs.

However, the effects of the corona crisis made forecasts difficult.

In principle, the age structure also has a major influence on the conditions on the labor market in the country.

Compared to other federal states, there are fewer jobs.

There are fewer and fewer people of working age.

The labor market could just continue to accept skilled workers.

Many companies were looking to replace the many employees who would retire in the foreseeable future.

Every fourth employee in the country is over 55 years old.

In terms of unemployment, the experts assume that 73,300 people will be unemployed in 2021 in the mean scenario.

That would be a decrease of 13.6 percent compared to the estimated annual average for 2020 of around 84,800 unemployed.

Nationwide, a decrease of 3.8 percent is expected.
