November 26, 2020The Duma has approved some amendments to the Family Code that prohibit the transcription in Russia of same-sex marriages contracted abroad. In fact, it is a question of the prohibition on applying international treaties in Russia that contradict Russian legislation, but also contrary to the "foundations of the legal order and morality".

According to Russian legislators, these amendments will make it possible to avoid the recognition of same-sex marriages contracted abroad. In the past there have been cases when some Russian registry offices transcribed same-sex marriages contracted abroad, in fact legalizing them.
