Modon Real Estate announced yesterday the success of the demolition of the Mina Plaza towers in the Port Zayed area in Abu Dhabi, setting a new world record in the Guinness World Records as the tallest building to be demolished with explosives, in the bombing process that was carried out in coordination with all strategic partners, and in cooperation with The most prominent companies in the field of building demolition.

Port Plaza towers consist of four individually designed high-rise buildings, which were built on a seven-story platform, and during the operation, 144 floors were demolished, within 10 seconds, with non-primary fixed explosives placed in 18,000 holes inside the structures.

Ahmed Al-Zaabi, Director of the Implementation Department at Modon Real Estate Company, said: “We are proud to have achieved a record recorded in the Guinness Book of Records, to document the ability of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to implement mega projects, by following the highest standards of security and safety, and to be recorded as the tallest building to be demolished using explosives. The Zayed Port area was temporarily closed to implement the demolition, in order to preserve the safety of all residents.

Comprehensive plan

A comprehensive field security plan was implemented for the demolition of the Mina Plaza towers, which included a case study of the site’s infrastructure of government, commercial and residential buildings, and direct supervision of the evacuation of neighboring areas, and ensuring that they are isolated before the demolition process.

Abu Dhabi Police assumed leadership of the event, enhanced security and safety in the demolition area, and provided the necessary support to all teams that participated in the mission, in cooperation and coordination with the main partners.

All necessary measures have been taken to secure the demolition site by traffic patrols, ensuring smooth traffic flow in areas adjacent to the site, making road diversions, and carrying out a number of traffic tasks.

As for the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority, it has secured the site, according to safety and prevention requirements that are integrated with other precautionary measures, from evacuating the area around the towers, and providing ambulances, emergency, fire and rescue vehicles.

As for the Media Committee, it included the Department of Security Media in the Abu Dhabi Police Affairs Sector, the Media Office of the Abu Dhabi Government, the Department of Municipalities and Transport, and "MODON" real estate.
