November 26, 2020The first trial in Italy will be held at the Court of Siena in which the crime of torture is contested against members of the police.

The gup of the Court of the city of the Palio, Roberta Malavasi, indicted 5 prison police officers, three inspectors and two assistants, who were serving in the Ranza prison, in San Gimignano (Siena), accused of having beaten a Tunisian prisoner during a cell transfer, on 11 October 2018. The protests were of aggravated injuries, threats, false ideological torture.



According to what emerged from the investigation, coordinated by the prosecutor Valentina Magnini, there was a beating that would have caused the victim acute suffering and "inhuman and degrading treatment".

The trial of the 5 agents, in front of the college chaired by judge Luciano Costantini, should begin in May 2021. Seven civil parties, linked to various associations to protect the rights and guarantees of detainees, were also admitted to the procedure.

There are 10 other officers under investigation for the same facts.
