Bamberg (dpa / lby) - With 16.67 million euros, the federal government will support the renovation of the old town hall and the St. Getreu church in Bamberg.

The MP Andreas Schwarz announced on Thursday from the budget committee in the Bundestag.

The old town hall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the old town, and the church is one of the most important baroque sacred buildings in Bavaria.

The federal government is adding more than eight million euros for the old town hall, which is to be renovated together with the upper bridge.

The money will be invested in a heating system, in the equipment for an exhibition concept, in the renovation of the facade and in plastering and painting work.

In addition, the federal government took over 7.9 million euros for the renovation of the St. Getreu church, which has been closed since March 2015 due to major damage.
