The campaign has been going on for a long time and was led by Scottish Labor's health spokeswoman Monica Lennon.

It was also her motion that was voted through in the Scottish Parliament.

"This will make a huge difference in the lives of women and girls and everyone who menstruates," Lennon told The Guardian.

The country's local authorities have been commissioned to make the products available free of charge to the country's nearly 1.6 million women affected by the new law.

Schools, colleges and universities will be required to ensure that free menstrual products are available in their toilets.
