Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburger Sportbund (HSB) and the Hamburger Volksbank have awarded the “Stars of Sports” for the tenth time.

The Hamburger Volksbank announced on Thursday that Duvenstedter SV from 1969, TSG Bergedorf from 1860 and the Boxakademie Hamburg will each receive a silver star and prize money totaling 7,000 euros.

Because of the current Corona restrictions, the honors of the three winning clubs took place in the smallest circle, it said.

The competition honors the diverse voluntary commitment of the Hamburg sports clubs, which again this year applied with numerous projects from popular sport.

The winners had "won over the jury with outstanding projects which, in addition to sporting performance, also place social commitment in the focus of their club work", the statement said.

Duvenstedter SV (1st place, Big Star) was honored for its program “I'm going big with sport in Duvenstedt”.

As a sports club in a district on the outskirts of Hamburg with many new building areas, the DSV has become an attraction for many young families with children and wants to contribute to the preservation of community and togetherness in the district.

TSG Bergedorf (2nd place, Kleiner Stern) was honored for “exemplary work in the Corona period”.

When there were significant restrictions in many areas of public and private life due to the lockdown in mid-March, the association set itself the goal of “helping its members through creative solutions and continuing to strengthen the association and togetherness”.

The Boxing Academy Hamburg (3rd place, Kleiner Stern) was awarded for supporting socially disadvantaged children and young people.

As a sports-oriented social institution, it not only offers boxing training, but also accompanies the participants pedagogically, encourages them to develop visions and goals and show them perspectives.
