Bad Salzuflen (dpa / lnw) - In the city center of Bad Salzuflen (Lippe district), an apartment building caught fire on Wednesday evening.

17 residents were rescued from the burning building, the fire department announced on Thursday night.

According to initial findings, the fire broke out in the kitchen of a 22-year-old's apartment on the top floor.

The fire brigade took the young man out of the smoky apartment on fire with heavy breathing protection.

He was taken to a hospital for surveillance.

The extinguishing work continued into the early hours of the morning. According to the fire department, parts of the house were no longer habitable. Some residents were temporarily staying in hotels. There was initially no information on the exact cause of the fire or the amount of damage.
