Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The relaxation of the corona protection regulations at Christmas considers the former President of the NRW Constitutional Court, Michael Bertrams, to be a violation of the rule of law.

“The requirement of rational, sensible government action enshrined in it should have suggested that the contact restriction to five people from two households, which was envisaged from December 1, should have been continued for the whole month and thus the risk of a further, no longer controllable increase in the number of infections limit, ”writes Bertrams in the“ Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger ”(Friday), as the newspaper reported in advance on Thursday evening.

The fact that this did not happen is based “quite obviously on an excess of emotionality in the decision-making process”.

Bertrams also criticizes the fact that the regulation adopted is "largely indefinite in terms of content".

Those who belong to the closest circle of family and friends, for whom there are extended opportunities to meet on the Christmas holidays, are “largely at the discretion of those involved”.

The regulation thus turns out to be "essentially a diffuse appeal to the population's sense of responsibility".

In case of doubt, people should understand the permission to come together at Christmas "as an expression of a generous opening for encounters between the years".

Bertrams considers this to be “a fatal signal” in view of the risk of contagion in the corona pandemic.
