The two giants of the Men's Alpine Skiing World Cup scheduled for December 5 and 6 in Val d'Isère are rescheduled for the same days in Santa Caterina Valfurva (Italy), the International Ski Federation (FIS) announced on Thursday.

The two races cannot be held due to the lack of snow, several sources confirmed, while the FIS press release did not mention the reason for the postponement.

The Savoyard resort is also due to host two men's speed competitions on December 12 and 13, then three women's speed competitions from December 18 to 20.

The "Criterium of the first snow" thus continues its black series: in 2018 and in 2019 only one race was able to take place each time out of the four planned, either because of the lack of snow or because of bad weather conditions (wind , too much snowfall ...).

Val d'Isère has received the green light from the French authorities to organize the international competitions in December behind closed doors, although the winter sports resorts are not yet open to the public due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the stations fight to welcome the public as soon as possible, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced Thursday that they could open during the holiday season but without operating the ski lifts.
