Hanover (dpa / lni) - Two members of the AfD want to legally stop the corona-related mask requirement in the Lower Saxony state parliament.

As Christopher Emden and Stephan Bothe announced on Thursday, they have brought a lawsuit against the President of the State Parliament Gabriele Andretta (SPD) at the State Court in Bückeburg, who ordered the mask requirement at the end of October.

The AfD politicians consider the order to be formally unconstitutional and also doubt the protection against infection by covering the mouth and nose.

It is not about special rights for MPs, but about "clearly showing that a mask requirement is nonsense and that citizens urgently have to defend themselves against this harassment," said Bothe.

However, several studies show that wearing everyday masks also helps to contain the corona pandemic.

In particular, you lower the risk of infecting others with the virus.
