The Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem bint Ibrahim Al-Hashemi, affirmed the need for the international community to continue providing the necessary support to Afghanistan to enjoy peace and stability, work to combat terrorism that has caused heavy losses to the Afghan people, support Afghanistan to ensure that it achieves the desired sustainable development goals, and work to strengthen the essential role What women are playing in establishing peace and security in Afghanistan, because only by involving women in the peace process will we be able to achieve meaningful and lasting peace.

This came during the statement that Al-Hashemi made during the activities of the "Afghanistan 2020 Conference", which was held virtually on November 24, with the hosting of Afghanistan, Finland and the United Nations, with the participation of 70 countries and international organizations, to coordinate international support for development in Afghanistan.

She noted that three years ago, the UAE called its citizens martyrs of humanitarian work who were martyred in a terrorist attack in Kandahar, while performing their duty to launch humanitarian projects that serve a wide spectrum of the Afghan people, stressing that the UAE will remain strict in combating terrorism and eliminating it in all its forms.

Al-Hashemi said that in the context of its awareness of the importance of developing awareness in Afghan society, to eliminate extremist ideology, it has provided training to more than 20,000 imams in Afghanistan, to spread tolerance and awareness of the values ​​of moderation and tolerance.

In addition, the UAE has contributed more than $ 1.7 billion in humanitarian and development aid to the Afghan people.

During the "Covid-19" pandemic, urgent medical assistance was provided to help the medical staff and workers on the first line of defense to cope with the repercussions of this "pandemic".

She concluded the statement by referring to the UAE's efforts to work to empower women in Afghanistan.
