When fraudsters contact their targets, who are aged 80 to 90, they claim to be from the bank.
They say that their bank card is too old and therefore needs to be replaced.
In order to prevent the victims from leaving the home due to the prevailing pandemic, they offer to come and pick it up.
- The fraudsters want to seem helpful.
When they collect the card, they also offer to take cash and other valuables.
When they then receive the code, they empty the card and most bank cards have a ceiling of SEK 15,00, which is quite quick money for the fraudsters, says Anna-Karin Kjellgren.
60 fraud attempts - since the end of September
The fraud wave began at the end of September and the fraudsters have moved between Kungsbacka, Falkenberg, Varberg, Gothenburg and Kungälv.
- We are working on several fronts with this.
One is to prevent and inform so that you as an elderly person and relative know that it is happening.
The second is to investigate and find these people.
