Castles (dpa / lrs) - After the fire in a single-family house in the Mayen-Koblenz district, a 79-year-old resident is still missing.
The search for the man in the fire has been going on since Wednesday morning, as a police spokesman said.
"Before the investigators could not enter the building, as it may have been unstable after the fire," added the spokesman.
Therefore, forces from the Technical Relief Organization (THW) were involved in the search on Wednesday.
Why the fire broke out in the older house on Tuesday was initially unclear.
According to the police, the single-family house is part of a building complex with several buildings.
The residents from the surrounding houses had been brought to safety.
The fire department had put out the flames.
The federal road 49 near Burgen had to be closed in both directions due to extinguishing work.
The police estimated the damage at a six-figure sum.
