The Board of Education in Torsås made the decision to close at eight o'clock on Wednesday morning.

By then, some of the children were already in preschool.

- The staff had to call the parents who had already left their children and tell them that we would close, says Maria Karlsson, principal at the preschools in Torsås municipality.

Information was sent out to all parents via email and the staff put up notes with information.

Seven of the staff are at home

On Sunday evening, one of the employees received a positive answer to his covid test.

The next day, two more staff members were at home with symptoms and the number increased.

On Wednesday morning, it was clear that seven people could not go to work.

- It is never fun to have to close, it is the last option because we have such an important function in society.

We waited until the last minute, says Maria Karlsson.

The main reason for the closure is the lack of staff.

- We have a hard time covering the whole day and it becomes a security risk to have the preschool open.

May not be at another preschool

The preschool will be closed for the rest of the week and then a new decision will be made based on what the situation looks like.

The children will not be offered a place at another preschool in the meantime.

-Because we fear a covid-10 spread even if we have not confirmed it, we do not want to spread the children to other preschools, says Lena Sandgren Swartz, head of education in Torsås municipality.

Families where both parents have socially important jobs can still receive childcare.

The children will be allowed to attend the preschool with healthy staff.

At lunchtime on Wednesday, there were three children registered who needed care on Thursday and Friday.

Eklövet's preschool has four departments and 62 enrolled children.
