In a possible terrorist attack ... a woman was stabbed in the neck in Switzerland

A Swiss citizen assaulted two women in a store in Lugano, Ticino province, in the south of the country, on Tuesday, as a result of which one of them was hit with a knife in the neck.

Reuters reported that the attacker dragged a woman by the neck and hit the other with a serrated knife in the neck.

Swiss police in Ticino said the attack was over and that the suspected 28-year-old woman, who lives in the area, was in detention.  

According to the agency, the injury of one of the victims is still serious, but does not represent a threat to her life, while the other was slightly injured.

For his part, the federal prosecutor in the European country said that the incident was suspected of terrorist motives.

"A section of a store in Lugano was the scene of a suspected terrorist attack on several people," the Federal Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

The statement added, "In this context, a person with Swiss nationality has been arrested and is now in detention ... The Swiss Public Prosecutor's Office has opened criminal proceedings against this person."
