Cologne (AP) - The Handball Bundesliga (HBL) expects the host Egypt to improve its hygiene concept in the debate about hosting the World Cup in January.

"That still needs to be improved in some places and brought up to date," said HBL managing director Frank Bohmann of the German press agency.

"But that is also being done at the moment."

The 56-year-old was present at a conference call two weeks ago at which the World Cup organizers presented their hygiene concept for the tournament from January 13th to 31st.

"There are still some questions left open, for example, what concerns the admission of viewers," said Bohmann.

In addition, from his point of view, the lessons from the international break at the beginning of November should be incorporated into the concept.

After two European Championship qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Estonia, several German national players had tested positive for the corona virus.

As a result, some Bundesliga games were subsequently canceled.

“On the one hand, there should be a uniform quality standard at the World Cup when it comes to testing.

On the other hand, it is also about the operational implementation of these tests, ”said Bohmann.

According to Bohmann, the Women's European Championship in Denmark in December could show whether and how such a major event can work in times of the corona

pandemic.

"One could then see whether this system, which is being planned in Egypt, works," he said.
