Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament is bringing together representatives from memorial sites in Germany, Israel and Rwanda for an online conference on the culture of remembrance in the three countries this morning (8:30 a.m.).

Artists and educators will also take part in the two-day conference.

Topics are the importance of the culture of remembrance for democracy, human rights and reconciliation as well as different approaches in the three countries as well as specific projects for commemorating the genocide during the Nazi regime and in Rwanda in 1994. Rhineland-Palatinate already had a partnership with the East African one back then Country.

The conference begins with an introduction by the President of the State Parliament, Hendrik Hering (SPD).

This is followed by greetings from Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) and the ambassadors of Israel and Rwanda in Germany.

The first focus is a conversation on the question of how young people can be addressed for a culture of remembrance.
