Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - After causing several accidents in the west of Baden-Württemberg and stealing two vehicles within a few hours, a 48-year-old man is to be brought before a judge on Wednesday.

Several people were injured in the accidents.

"The man's motives are still unclear, a mental state of emergency cannot be ruled out," said a police spokesman for the Karlsruhe police headquarters in the morning.

According to previous knowledge, a first rear-end collision with a slightly injured person occurred on Tuesday evening in Rheinstetten in the Karlsruhe district.

The suspect escaped in his SUV in the direction of Karlsruhe.

There further accidents and traffic hazards were reported to the police, which are assigned to the man.

Eventually the man's SUV overturned and caught fire.

The man then threatened an uninvolved car driver with his knife, brought her car into his power and thus caused another accident.

Then the fugitive seized a truck.

When approaching the A5 with the truck, it was reported that there was a collision with a car.

"This was apparently dragged along by the truck over a longer distance," it said.

The two inmates were injured.

In the evening, the police finally arrested the suspect near Riegel (Emmendingen district).
