- What we want to do is a capacity pumping, to see how much water it is about and where the increasing concentrations come from.

This is now being done together with Luleå University of Technology, says Luleå Municipality's VA manager Petra Viklund.

Admittedly, the reserve water source at Bergnäset is not used - but the trend for PFAS in the water is rising and is now very close to the National Food Administration's action limit for drinking water.

In many products

PFAS is a collective name for 5,000 different industrially produced chemicals.

They are used in a large number of products, such as fire foam and impregnating agents.

PFAS has previously been found in wells at property owners at Lulnäset in Luleå and at the airport in Arvidsjaur.

Common to all these substances is that they are very difficult to break down and some can have harmful effects on people and the environment.

- This is a substance that is industrially produced and should not exist in our nature, says Petra Viklund.
