Nuremberg (dpa) - The toy industry expects good Christmas business despite the Corona crisis.

Sales could be at the previous year's level, said Ulrich Brobeil from the German Association of the Toy Industry in Nuremberg.

The toy industry is one of the winners of the pandemic.

"The development shows once again that there is no savings on toys."

Manufacturers and retailers want to present sales figures for 2020 and an outlook for the coming year at a virtual press conference today (11 a.m.).

In the past three years, consumers in Germany made more and more money for toys; last year it was 3.4 billion euros.

This year, the dealers are also expecting good business.

"In times of lockdown, home office & Co., Germans spend more money on toys," said the managing director of the Federal Association of Toy Retailers, Steffen Kahnt.

"It's good that the toy stores are open despite the second wave."

The model railway industry also proved to be crisis-proof.

Most manufacturers are very satisfied with the sales development, said Brobeil.

Manufacturers such as Märklin from Baden-Württemberg and Piko from Thuringia are seeing increased demand.
