Berlin (dpa / bb) - One day before the deliberations of the federal and state governments on how to proceed together in the corona pandemic, the Berlin Senate is also dealing with the issue.

The Senate wants to make decisions based on the agreements at a special meeting on Thursday.

At the regular meeting today (10 a.m.) Berlin's Governing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) will inform the other Senate members about the status of the deliberations at the state level.

Müller is currently chairman of the Prime Minister's Conference and moderates the discussions.

The country leaders want to present a joint proposal and decide on Wednesday with the Chancellor about the consequences of the still high number of infections.

Among other things, it is about a possible extension of the partial lockdown that has been in force since the beginning of November and further corona measures at schools.

An important topic regardless of the Corona crisis is the planned state institute for rail vehicles.

For this purpose, a resolution to found an institution under public law is planned for Tuesday.

It is part of the planning for the future of the Berlin S-Bahn.

The state of Berlin wants to buy a vehicle fleet of initially 1,308 new S-Bahn cars and transfer them to its own company.

The background is the largest tender in the history of the Berlin S-Bahn.

The previous contract with S-Bahn Berlin GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG, expired at the end of 2017.

Since then, the services have been provided and billed on the basis of transitional contracts.

Now there is a tendering process for two sub-networks, within the framework of which the new S-Bahn cars are to be procured.

The State Institute for Rail Vehicles is needed for this.
