It is a survey which will undoubtedly put a little balm in the heart of Gérald Darmanin.

For several days, controversies have been linked for the Minister of the Interior, strongly attacked on the violent evacuation of the Place de la République, Monday evening, and article 24 of the bill on "global security" .

This provision aroused the indignation of associations for the defense of the press and many editorial staff, which denounced an attack on the freedom to inform.

While the bill was finally adopted in the National Assembly by 388 votes in favor and 104 against, Europe 1 was able to consult the results of a confidential poll on Tuesday afternoon, carried out at the request of the information service of the government (SIG), dependent on Matignon.

Six out of ten French people in favor

982 people were consulted by Ifop on this question: "As part of the comprehensive security bill, the government proposes to prohibit the dissemination of the face of a police officer or gendarme in intervention when the purpose of this dissemination is to violation of his physical or mental integrity. On this subject, to which of these two opinions do you feel closest? "

According to the results of this survey, 58% of French people believe that the controversial article is "a good thing because the dissemination of these images endangers the police or gendarmes concerned".

For 40% of the 982 people surveyed, this is "a bad thing because citizens and journalists must be able to document the interventions of the police" and 2% do not comment.

A reflection of political fragmentation

Also according to this document that Europe 1 consulted, 63% of the "total left" does not agree with this measure.

Thus, 72% of the voters of Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Benoît Hamon oppose it, as 54% of the voters of EELV today.

Conversely, 76% of La République en Marche supporters support article 24 (66% for Emmanuel Macron's voters in 2017).

On the right side (UDI, LR, DLF and RN), 74% of those polled support the measure.

This proportion even rises to 83% among the voters of François Fillon in 2017.
