"A national embarrassment" - this is how Chris Christie describes the recent trips from the legal team that Donald Trump put together to undermine the election result through various legal processes but without evidence and thus retain presidential power.

- If you have evidence of electoral fraud - then present them, Christie said in an interview with ABC.

Former New Jersey Gov. and former presidential candidate Christie is one of the heaviest Republicans to date who has stepped forward and distanced himself from the president's attempt to challenge the legitimacy of the election.

The majority of the party's representatives otherwise agree with the hitherto unfounded allegations of electoral fraud or choose to remain completely sonic.

Christie's dissent concerns, among other things, the pressure directed at Republican governors in some states to get them to act against the election result and question Biden's victory.

More are distancing themselves

- I have been one of the president's supporters and voted for him twice.

But democratic elections have consequences, and we cannot continue to act as if something has happened that has not.

I am a convinced Republican and love my party, but the nation's interest comes first, Christie said.

Over the weekend, several Republicans have broken with the mainstay of the party, which either remains silent or agrees with the president's unfounded allegations of electoral fraud.

Michigan's Fred Upton says voters in his state "have spoken" by electing Joe Biden.

The governors of Alaska and Maine have also signaled dissent, according to CNN

Larry Hogan, the governor of Maryland, says in an interview that he is ashamed that no more Republicans are speaking out against the "bizarre measures" from the White House.

"Similar to Banana Republic"

- Before, it was the United States that used to monitor other countries' elections, now it is we who have begun to resemble a banana republic.

It's time to put an end to all nonsense!

Trump responded to the criticism via Twitter, where he called Hogan a "RINO" (Republican In Mind Only).

A tweet that Hogan responded to with the following call to Trump:

"Stop playing golf and admit the loss."
