A dangerous, unacceptable solution that will never resolve a 40-year-old conflict.

The parliamentarians did not hide their concern and their dissatisfaction after the words of Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the partial reopening of the

town of Varosha

, without prior consultation with the Greek Cypriot side.

This amounts to drawing a line on the prospect of resuming negotiations for the reunification of the island.

European indulgence has lasted too long,"

said Arnaud Danjean, Les Républicains (LR).

MEPs call on EU leaders to impose new targeted sanctions against Turkey at the December 10-11 summit.

Several right-wing MPs have also called for an end, once and for all, to Turkey's accession process to the European Union.
