Hanover (dpa / lni) - Almost half of the trainees in Lower Saxony and Bremen had no certainty about their continued employment shortly before the end of their training this year.

This affected 48 percent of apprentices in their third year of training, as shown in the 2020 training report presented by the German Trade Union Federation (DGB) on Tuesday.

In 2019 it was 39 percent.

A total of almost 2,600 trainees were surveyed before the corona-related lockdown in spring.

The DGB cited digital change as one of the reasons, which caused jobs to be lost in the automotive industry, for example. "In order to keep training attractive, trainees need a perspective of being taken on in the company and good framework conditions for training," said the head of the youth department at the DGB district, Ute Neumann, at the presentation in Hanover.
