Berlin (dpa / bb) - A new collective agreement for the around 14,500 employees of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) is off the table for the time being - all employees receive a tax and social security-free corona bonus of 900 euros.

The Verdi union and the Berlin Municipal Employers' Association (KAV) agreed on Tuesday, as both sides announced.

The bonus for trainees is therefore 225 euros and should be paid out by the end of each year.

The old collective agreement, which was terminated at the end of June, will be reinstated and should now apply until the end of May 2021, it said.

From April, both sides want to negotiate a new general tariff.

"Against the background of the challenging overall situation and the currently unpredictable economic impact of the corona pandemic on our member BVG, we welcome the postponement," said Anke Stier, negotiator of the KAV.

Verdi spoke of a "compromise" that had come about after "intensive, constructive discussions".

In each of the 16 federal states, different collective agreements apply to local public transport (ÖPNV).

They all expired at the end of June.

Since then, the Verdi Federal Association has been demanding that the regional collective bargaining regulations be supplemented by a nationwide standard agreement.

The Association of Local Employers' Associations (VKA) strictly rejects this demand.

In autumn there were therefore warning strikes in public transport in numerous federal states, including Berlin.
