The incident occurred sometime between January 1 and July 1, 2019. The pigs had no food and there must have been cannibalism among the animals, several pigs died of starvation or disease.
The man was charged with animal cruelty and secondarily violations of the Animal Welfare Act, he denied animal cruelty but admitted violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
The man is now sentenced for animal cruelty to a suspended sentence and a 100-day fine of SEK 250 in Halmstad District Court.
Claims that the pigs have not starved
The verdict states that “the man has subjected about 130 pigs to suffering without there being acceptable reasons.

The man has claimed that the pigs did not starve to death, but that he himself should have killed them with a bolt gun.
However, according to the autopsy performed by the Swedish Veterinary Institute, there were no signs of bolt holes.
