Hamburg (dpa / lno) - In view of the Corona crisis, the former Mayor of Hamburg Klaus von Dohnanyi sees difficult times in Germany.

Even if the pandemic becomes controllable again in the foreseeable future, the economic consequences would still be underestimated, said the 92-year-old SPD politician of the "Welt" (Tuesday edition).

The purchasing power of consumers, companies and countries will decline significantly worldwide.

"That will also have a negative impact on our labor markets."

At the same time, climate protection, environmental protection and advancing digitization could initially also cost jobs and prosperity.

"We are heading into a very difficult time."

The corona crisis causes high costs, said von Dohnanyi. "And we could miss this money in the ecological renovation". It is therefore important to find a balance between maintaining work and prosperity on the one hand and the “urgent ecological cuts” on the other.
