Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - After the serious traffic accident with two deaths on Saturday in Frankfurt's Ostend, the police have not yet had any new information.

The investigators hope that witnesses will come forward with further clues, as a police spokesman said on Monday.

The 38-year-old driver of the accident vehicle is said to have accelerated sharply at an intersection and lost control of the vehicle in a right turn.

He initially ran over a bicycle courier.

On the sidewalk he touched another vehicle and hit two pedestrians, said the spokesman for the accident on Saturday afternoon.

The three "very seriously injured" were taken to hospitals, where a 61-year-old pedestrian from the Ostalb district in Baden-Württemberg and the 27-year-old bicycle courier died.

The condition of a seriously injured 31-year-old woman is now stable, said the police spokesman.

A blood sample was taken from the slightly injured driver in the accident, the result of which is not yet available.

According to the police officers on site, however, he “showed no signs of failure,” it said.

How high the speed was at the time of the accident is not yet known - “faster than 50 always”.

There was also no further information on the information provided by the driver to the police.
