Lübeck (dpa / lno) - Despite the corona pandemic, marzipan production at the Lübeck company Niederegger has been running at full speed for weeks.

The demand for Christmas items such as hearts, stars and breads made from marzipan from home and abroad is unbroken, said company spokesman Kathrin Gaebel on Wednesday.

The production volumes were roughly at the level of the previous year.

According to the company, around 30,000 kilograms of marzipan leave the plant in Lübeck every day during the season.

"Experience has shown that sweets are quite crisis-proof, they are always bought," said Gaebel.

As long as the retail trade stays open, don't worry.

“In addition, sales through our online shop also increased significantly in the first lockdown in spring,” she said.

The export of Niederegger products abroad is also still going well, according to the company spokeswoman.

According to the company, Niederegger's largest export markets are the USA, England and Russia.

The Christmas business accounts for around 60 percent of annual sales.

The family company never gives any information about the amount.
