Erfurt (dpa / th) - The food-pleasure-restaurants union (NGG) has appealed to companies in the industry in Thuringia to use the partial lockdown to qualify their employees.

“During the corona pandemic, many employees cannot work at all or only to a very limited extent.

The companies are well advised to call up the high government grants for qualification now, ”explained Jens Löbel, Managing Director of the NGG Region Thuringia, on Monday in Erfurt.

By the middle of the current year, only around 1,300 people in all of Thuringia had received funding under the Qualification Opportunities Act, which provides grants for further training for employees.

"The law is a great opportunity for hotels, guesthouses and restaurants that have been hit very hard by Corona," said the unionist.

There is a lot of room for improvement among service staff and hotel employees in terms of further training, because in many companies there was hardly any time for this in the last boom years.

State offers are also relevant for companies in the food industry, in which digitization is advancing rapidly and in some places also threatening jobs.

Löbel pointed out that in Erfurt and Gera alone around 6,000 people work in the hospitality industry, and another 1,500 people are employed in the food industry.

With the Qualification Opportunities Act, according to the union, companies have been able to receive state subsidies for the further training of their employees since 2019.

In companies with fewer than ten employees, according to this information, the employment agency fully covers the costs for the courses - as well as the salary.
