Berlin (AP) - Berlin's Governing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) justified the foreseeable extension of the partial lockdown to contain the corona pandemic with the high burden on the health system in Germany.

"There are federal states where the number of infections is developing downwards, in other federal states, especially in the big cities, the numbers are just stagnating," said the chairman of the Prime Minister's Conference (MPK) on Monday in the ARD «Tagesschau».

"And that is something that is not yet sufficient to relieve our health system."

In view of the persistently high number of corona infections, the partial lockdown that has been in force since the beginning of November could be extended by three weeks to December 20 or even beyond. This emerges from the papers of the Union-led countries and the MPK presidency of Berlin, which are available to the German Press Agency. On Monday, the states wanted to vote on a joint proposal on how to proceed in the corona pandemic before new consultations with the federal government on Wednesday.
