“I strongly condemn this unacceptable act which insults our history and our deaths.

This is the message published this weekend by Christophe Béchu, the mayor of Angers, on his Twitter account.

Saturday, damage was indeed noted around the monument of the executed in Saint-Nicolas park.

This monument pays homage to the 46 resistance fighters of Belle-Beille during the Second World War.

, “a post was knocked down, a plaque was damaged and the barrier protecting the site was smashed”.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the monument was perhaps not directly targeted.

"A vehicle (probably stolen) was used as a ram on several occasions to rodeo in the park", indicates the daily.

Police came to the scene on Sunday to take surveys.
