This Monday, the coronavirus toll in France shows 49,232 deaths in the territory since the start of the epidemic.

Over the past 24 hours, 501 new deaths linked to Covid-19 have been recorded in hospitals.

Fewer than 5,000 new cases were also recorded in 24 hours.

501 Covid-19 patients have died in the last 24 hours in hospital and less than 5,000 new cases of coronavirus (4,452) have been identified over the same period, according to official figures released by Public Health France on Monday.

The agency explains, however, that the number of new cases is always lower after the weekend, when fewer tests are carried out.

In total, 49,232 people have died from Covid-19 since the start of the epidemic in France.

The test positivity rate fell to 13.3%, from 14% on Sunday and 14.8% on Saturday.

Despite everything, this is the first time that the figure for new contaminations has dropped below the 5,000 daily cases mark since September 28.

This goal of "3,000 to 5,000" daily contaminations had been set as a horizon to be reached by Emmanuel Macron during his interview on October 14, in which he announced the first restrictive measures in the face of the second wave, with the state of emergency sanitation and curfew in eight metropolitan areas.
