Hildesheim (dpa) - Many children want Santa Claus to end the corona pandemic.

This emerges from numerous letters that have so far arrived at the Lower Saxony Christmas post office in Himmelsthür.

In a mail center near Hildesheim, nine Deutsche Post employees have been answering children's letters to Santa Claus since Monday.

More than 3000 letters have arrived so far, including hundreds from abroad, as Post employees said.

In addition to wishes for an end to the pandemic, children are asking for toys and sweets.

Himmelsthür is one of three Christmas post offices in Lower Saxony.

In the Christkinddorf in Himmelpforten and in Nikolausdorf, children's letters are to be processed from the first day of Advent.

The aim of Deutsche Post is to answer all letters by Christmas Eve.

Due to the corona pandemic, the audience is not allowed this year.

In Himmelpforten, visitors can look through the windows from the outside if they wear a face mask and keep their distance from one another.
