Hanover (dpa / lni) - Lower Saxony's Vice-Prime Minister Bernd Althusmann considers an extension of the corona-related partial lockdown until shortly before Christmas to be possible.

"It seems conceivable to me to maintain the current restrictions until December 20, in order to then be able to celebrate at least a comparatively normal Christmas with family members," said the CDU politician of the "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung" (Monday).

An extension of the measures is consistent as long as the seven-day value of the new infections is not below 50 per 100,000 inhabitants.

At the same time, the Minister of Economic Affairs demanded that «unrealistic recommendations» such as the requirement that a child should only meet one other child should not be pursued any further.

The federal and state governments want to decide on Wednesday which rules will apply in the coming weeks in order to curb the spread of the corona virus.

Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil had already insisted on reliable specifications at the weekend with a view to the deliberations this week.

"People need to know what is possible in December, during the Advent and Christmas season and over the turn of the year," said the SPD politician of the German Press Agency.
