Erfurt / Hildburghausen (dpa) - After particularly high numbers of corona infections within a week, all schools and daycare centers in the Thuringian district of Hildburghausen will be closed from Wednesday.

The district agreed on this with the Thuringian state government.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health confirmed the measure on Monday.

The MDR had previously reported.

The number of new infections within the past seven days per 100,000 inhabitants reached 396 on Monday. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the seven-day incidence was higher in no other district in Germany.

As the spokesman for the Thuringian Ministry of Health told the German Press Agency, it is planned that all children and students as well as the educational staff will be tested for an infection with the corona virus after five days in rapid tests.

The ministry has already organized 11,000 rapid antigen tests for this purpose.

The Bundeswehr has promised support for the tests, it said.

District Administrator Thomas Müller (CDU) assumed on Monday that the infection situation would worsen.

"We're going to be marching towards 500 now," he said, referring to the 7-day incidence.

Müller had long been calling for schools and daycare centers to be closed.

Overall, the situation is such that it is hardly possible to identify clear sources of infection.

"It goes across all ages," said the district administrator.

According to the ministry, childcare is guaranteed for children in the district.

A new regulation is planned for the entire district, which will include stricter contact restrictions, said the spokesman.
