Stuttgart / Heilbronn (dpa / lsw) - The Südwest-AfD has prevailed against the will of the city with its plans for a presence party conference with hundreds of participants in Göppingen.
A spokesman for the regional association of the dpa confirmed that the state or program party conference will now be held in the EWS Arena on December 5th and 6th.
"Article 21 of the Basic Law guarantees the democratic decision-making process of political parties, and it is therefore logical that the city administration now gives in and does not want to prevent us from adopting an election program for the state elections in 2021."
According to the spokesman, the AfD expects around 800 participants.
Initially, the city had announced that, in its opinion, the event was not allowed due to the Corona regulation.
The AfD regional association has now invoked a new legal basis that emphasizes the importance of the parties.
"We do not consider meetings of this size to be appropriate at this time, but we are legally unable to prevent it," said a city spokesman.
In the past few months, the regional association had received a number of rejections when looking for a location for a party congress.
Most recently, the AfD had prevailed before the Stuttgart Administrative Court to be allowed to hold the event in a tent on the Heilbronn Theresienwiese.
Göppingen is preferred because the party conference can take place there in a hall.
