Halle (dpa / sa) - The police arrested a man in the Mansfeld-Südharz district who is said to be involved in a series of thefts.

A judge issued an arrest warrant against the 35-year-old man on Friday, the police announced on Monday.

The alleged serial thief has been in custody since then.

The police assume that the man is responsible for at least nine acts in the south of Saxony-Anhalt with property damage of more than 100,000 euros.

Since autumn 2019, the investigators have been listing, among other things, the theft of two vans and break-ins in a pharmacy and at a jeweler in Mansfeld-Südharz. This year, the 35-year-old is said to have stolen a safe with cash from a pharmacy in the Saalekreis and failed in an attempt to clear an ATM in Merseburg-Querfurt. The man had made extensive comments on the allegations, it said. The police believe that the suspect had accomplices. They are being searched for.
