Kiel (dpa / lno) - THW Kiel is the new leader of the handball Bundesliga.

Thanks to a 41:26 (22:13) home win over the newly promoted HSC 2000 Coburg, the record champions overtook the Rhein-Neckar Löwen, whose game at GWD Minden was canceled due to corona.

The best throwers of the game were Oskar Sunnefeldt with eight goals for Kiel and Florian Billek with six goals for the still pointless bottom of the table from Coburg.

"We had a lot of easy ball wins and were able to counter Coburg," said Kiel keeper Dario Quenstedt after the game at Sky.

Quenstedt stood between the posts for Niklas Landin and showed 14 saves.

THW coach Filip Jicha called right winger Sven Ehrig and the Swede Sunnefeldt in the left back space into the starting lineup.

Coburg tried to keep the pace high and kept the game open until 7: 7 (10th).

Then the playful superiority of the Kieler prevailed.

In the 27th minute, captain Domagoj Duvnjak made it 20:10 for the first ten-goal lead.

Miha Zarabec scored the 40th goal.

On Thursday, the second leg of the Champions League group stage at FC Barcelona is on the program for THW.

The Kiel want to take revenge for the 26:32 home bankruptcy against the Catalans.
