Hamburg (dpa / lno) - To protect gambling addicts, the SPD and the Greens in Hamburg want to extend player bans in amusement arcades, sports betting offices, online games of chance and in places with slot machines.

The blocking system should be able to exclude gamblers at risk of addiction from playing, both parties announced on Sunday.

At the same time, people who are aware of their gambling addiction should be able to have themselves included in the databases.

A corresponding red-green application should be discussed on Wednesday in the Hamburg citizenship.

In casinos, the player bans are already established and have proven themselves as an instrument of player protection, according to the application.

With the new State Treaty on gaming from July 2021, it will also be possible to set up lock files in the future, said Claudia Loss, health policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group, according to the announcement.

“With our application, we want to ensure that the player blocking systems are also operational at an early stage.

Especially in view of the increasing range of games offered by online casinos, effective protection against ruinous gambling addiction is urgently needed, said Peter Zamory, spokesman for drugs and addiction for the Greens parliamentary group.

"Blocking systems that establish and expand the limitation of stakes and the possibility of players blocking themselves are an important step in the right direction."
