• Bad weather, water bomb and flooding in Crotone

Share

November 22, 2020It is still red alert for bad weather in a large part of southern Italy, including Calabria and especially the Crotone area hit yesterday by a violent storm.

One hundred families are still displaced and housed in tourist facilities.

What is most worrying is the swelling of the river Esaro, constantly monitored by technicians.

This is the watercourse that crosses some popular districts of the capital Crotone, such as Fondo Gesù and San Francesco, where the damage occurred in the 1996 flood, which also caused six victims.

Precipitation swollen all the watercourses already at the verge of overflow. The streets of some areas of the city, which are below sea level such as the Marinella district, yesterday became rivers of water, with mud and debris that literally submerged all parked cars and flooded garages and warehouses.

Damages were also recorded on the Ionian railway line, caused by numerous floods of waterways. Disruptions to some aqueduct systems in Calabria managed by Sorical. Some municipalities were left without a water supply.
