The father-in-law of Yanis, aged 5 when he died as a result of a punishment, had been tried since Monday for intentional homicide on a minor under 15 years old by the assizes of Pas-de-Calais.
He was sentenced this Friday evening to 25 years of criminal imprisonment.
The mother of the child was sentenced to four years in prison, two of which were suspended for not having prevented the murder.
Found guilty of murder and regular violence, the thirty-something was also sentenced to five years of socio-judicial follow-up with injunction of care.
The 26-year-old mother's sentence is accompanied by a three-year probationary period, without a committal warrant.
