Before the autumn, Södersjukhuset has planned for different scenarios regarding how many patients would need to be admitted with covid-19.

Pretty soon it was realized that it would be worse than the Public Health Agency thought.

- According to the Public Health Agency's forecast, we had expected a hill, but we look to be on our way to a Kebnekaise, says Anne Kierkegaard.

Less air in the system

At present, there are about 90 patients admitted with covid-19, at most in the spring there were at most 120 covid-19 patients admitted.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that more patients with a disease other than covid-19 are seeking emergency care at the hospital now than they did last spring, when a decline in this type of patient was seen.

- Despite the fact that we have more care places open now than when it was at its worst this spring, the margin, or the air in the system, is significantly smaller now because many more "ordinary" patients need emergency care, says Anna Gerber Ekblom.

- It can be things like bone fractures, heart attacks, strokes or pneumonia that do not have corona but also need our help.

So it is a very strained situation, says Anna Gerber Ekblom.

Tough winter awaits

How the winter will be depends largely on how well Stockholmers follow the stricter advice that is in place today and which may be introduced in the future.

- Our employees are tired after the spring, but there is a great commitment and a great deal of knowledge.

We feel that we will be able to do it, but we need the help of all Stockholmers, says Anne Kierkegaard.

- We would like to say to all Stockholmers: "Help us to help you", fills Anna Gerber Ekblom.
