Friedrichshafen (AP) - The Berlin Volleys suffered their second defeat of the season.

The capital club clearly lost the top duel of the volleyball Bundesliga at arch rivals VfB Friedrichshafen on Saturday with 0: 3 (24:26, 20:25, 22:25).

Both teams fought a high-level duel for at least two sets.

In the end, however, VfB was clearly the more effective team.

The Berliners had to cope with a major setback in advance.

After setter Sergej Grankin (calf injury), another top performer, Timothee Carle, was temporarily canceled.

The Frenchman did not even start the trip to Lake Constance because of a pulled abdominal muscle.

In the first set, which was initially balanced, the Berliners gained a 21:17 lead through three blocks in a row.

The Brazilian duo Eder Carbonera and Renan Michelucci showed their class.

But VfB drew level on the serve of substitute American Joseph Worsley to 24:24 and then had the better end to themselves.

The unfortunate outcome of the first round took away the confidence of the volleys.

Friedrichshafen remained sovereign and, thanks to consistent deals on the network, gained more and more the upper hand.

At the latest in the 10: 4 lead of VfB in the third set, the game was practically pre-decided, even if the guests came up to 20:21 in the final phase, not least due to two cracking aces from substitute Anton Brehme.
