Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) expressed its grave concern about the deteriorating health of political detainee Hassan Mushaima, one of the most prominent opposition leaders in Bahrain, in light of his old age and life threatening due to his health problems.

The organization confirmed - in a statement on its website - that the health problems of Mushaima, 72, were exacerbated by the negligence of the "Joe" prison administration for him so far, noting that the outbreak of the Corona epidemic is threatening his health.

She said, "In conjunction with the exacerbation of restrictions on prisoners in Jaw Prison, who invoked measures to prevent the Coronavirus, especially in terms of health care, communication with the family, quality of food, and the spread of diseases due to poor hygiene, the health of political prisoner Professor Hassan Mushaima has deteriorated significantly, according to what his son reported. The organization called for the immediate and unconditional release of Hassan Mushaima, and the rest of the opposition leaders, especially: Dr. Abdul-Jalil Al-Singace, Abdul-Wahab Hussein, and Abdul-Hadi Al-Khawaja, because of their suffering from chronic diseases that may threaten their lives, in light of the neglect of the Bahraini authorities of their health in conjunction with the outbreak Corona epidemic, according to what the organization says in its statement.

The organization held the concerned authorities responsible for Salama Mushaima, for not obtaining the necessary health care, and demanded his immediate and unconditional release.

Mushaima suffers - according to the organization - from chronic and serious diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure and gout, and he was previously suffering from cancer, and since October 2019 he has not undergone the required tests to find out whether the disease has returned, due to the delay of the prison administration in Determine a date for these examinations, according to the organization’s statement.

Hassan Mushaima was sentenced to life imprisonment in Jau Prison on charges of "attempting to overthrow the government", due to his role in the 2011 pro-democracy protests, according to the same statement.
